fuel system volume?

Postby Redneckintraining » Mon Nov 23, 2009 9:21 pm

Just wondering what is the approximate volume of the supply lines, the return lines and the IP itself?Looking to run a two tank system with some sort of fuel that is black.I am thinking of going with a 6 port selector valve.Problem is that both return and supply lines get switched so whatever volume that was in the lines/ip ends up contaminating the diesel tank.Im just wondering about how much that would be.

thanks.

If you know the length and inside diameter of a run of pipe or tubing, there's a formula to figure it. I believe it's the "cylinder volume" formula.
A 1st gen fuel filter holds just slightly above a pint (18 ounces, +/- an ounce or 2) IIRC.

I'm assuming putting a bit of clear product into the black tank won't hurt anything?

cylinder volume= pi x R(squared) x height (or length of hose, in this case.)

a 6 port switch switches all lines at once.so whatever was in the IP/lines before you switched over goes into the tank you just switched to.
