Please explain the governor spring?

Postby Broncman » Wed Oct 19, 2011 4:22 pm

I know this sounds stupid, but I have searched and still not clear. On our VE pumps the governor springs we change to get more rpm, exactly what does a different spring do ? The throttle is hooked directly to the spring and then to the fuel plate? So when we mash the throttle, it pulls the spring, that pulls on the plate?

Stiffer spring pulls harder on the plate? :?:

There is, from the top down, connected to the lever: the AFC pin, gov spring, governor, pivot point, fuel collar. These are in its essence.

When you mash the throttle, it pulls the lever which pivots the collar towards the driver in a front to back motion. As the RPM's go higher, it spins the governor faster. The governor has special weights that push a pin towards the lever, in turn towards the driver. Since this pin is on the same side of the pivot point and just below the governor spring, it works against the spring. A stronger spring makes the governor has to use more force to move this lever. When the governor has successfully gained enough force to push the lever, it moves the fuel collar backwards away from the driver thus limiting the amount of fuel injected.

Does this make sense?

So you pull on this spring( PN 366 for the 3200 rpm one ) and the other end is attached to the fueling bits. The governer is attached to this same fueling bit, and when it spins fast enough its push can overcome the spring action and move the fueling bits towards less fuel?
