newer engine with ve pump ?

Postby burnt_servo » Mon Jan 21, 2008 2:24 pm

i have a chance to get my hands on a newer 4bt engine , cheap , the same style the 24 valve engine .

there is no engine computer , can a ve pump be fitted to a 24 valve engine , and by extension , the 4 cylinder version , and still have it work well .
or at least as well as the older 12 valve ( or 8 valve for the 4cyl ) version of this engine .

i'm thinking of a vw ve pump wth a 12mm head .

or do i have to do a head swap to make this work ?

You should be able to do this. I would think the process would be similar to retrofitting a VE powered engine P7100. New or custom injector lines. changing the gear housing. and possibly some head modifications? I just finished class so I cant really think this through. Guys, correct me? :)

VE=3-bolt mount, p-pump and VP are 4-bolt mount. You'd need a timing case and pump gear...and injectors and lines...

I have a VE pumped 4bt and would swap everything with ya. The P Pump is more desired for what I intend to do.

this isn't a p pump engine , if it was i'd be laughing and the engine would be sitting in my basement .
it's a vp44 , same as the 24 valve dodges , except there is no engine controller ( ie computer ) .

Check junkyards for heavy equipment. Case backhoes have 4bts with p-pumps. The hp might be lower than a bread truck, but I think you can fix that. ;)
