cfm stock fan vs electric

Does anyone know how many cfm our stock fan pushes? Or has anyone put an electric fan in theirs? I'd rather spend my money towards an electric set up then a new clutch for mine.
1990 Restored with a bit of aftermarket goodies might be for sale?

Don't know but, they make kits for 2nd and 3rd gen trucks and are rated for around 5500 cfm and people seem to report no problems.

I think the electrics only draw about 1/2 - 1 hp.

Just take your stocker off

I've been runnin fanless since October and it doesn't get hot
90 W250 reg cab, Modified knuder valve, reversed reciprocting dinglearm adjusted, High volume flux capacitor,upgraded whirlygig, A clutch and a hitch
93 W350 ext cab dually, getrag and a few adjustments

im going to put electric fans and electric water pump on my drag truck......would be nice to not be able to run fans at all......

I just like the idea of having electric fans over the propeller that came on them.

There must be some reason they are still using direct-driven clutch fans on the Cummins engines to this day, despite the fact that the majority of other automotive applications have long since gone electric...

Flex-a-lite sells a set of electric fans for the Cummins trucks, but they don't recommend using them when towing heavy (heavy defined as 18k GCVW). That is for the 2nd gen application. Our trucks have a smaller radiator and the fluid capacity for the cooling system is about 1-1.5 gallons lower than the 2nd gens. You could run the electric fans, but I wouldn't tow with them. The electrics just don't seem capable of moving as much air as the stock clutch fan can.

For heavy cooling your not going to beat a stock type fan if it is operating correctly. If you are hauling just a lunch pail around then it would be fine with electric.

No fan at all

we'll see how warm it gets this summer, but I do keep the fan in the toolbox just in case

Or, you could upgrade to a Horton. Everyone will tell you they are hard to find. But, when I went Horton hunting I found three complete fans assemlies in two weeks.

Has anyone put a 2nd gen. radiator, in a 1st gen body? And how much trouble was it?
93, W350, auto, DTT convertor, 4.10's, GDS 60mm with 14cm, piston l/p, 2nd gen air horn. 366 spring. boost, and pyro.
91, W250, 360 gas, auto, 4.10
95, 2500, 4/4, 5" turbo back. So far.

If you knew what cfm the stock fan puts out and matched it with the same or better for electric i don't see where there would be any problems towing or not.

Agreed, but I don't think any of the electric fans on the market can keep up with what the factory fan does. At least that's the way it appears from the information available.

Being able to turn off the fan in colder climates has a real advantage along with a winter front. The heater actually works.
Some of these electric have some large fans, as large as the stock. Do they just not turn fast enough?
RIP 91.5 W250 5 speed. The great experiment.
