Need Help after 3200 spring install!!

Postby Jfriedlin » Sat Jul 25, 2009 8:42 am

Hi guys, I've got a 1989 4x4. Installed a 3200 spring yesterday and everything went pretty smooth. Got the truck all put back together, fired it up and no visible problems. I let it sit there and idle for a few minutes and it ran great. Got in it and hit the throttle and it died. I thought that was strange so I started it back up, fired right up again, eased on the throttle and the rpms slowed down until it cut off. As far as I can tell from idle, the more throttle I give it, the slower the rpms get until it cuts off. It almost acts like the throttle is acting in reverse. Could I have have indexed the throttle shaft wrong putting it back together and thats what causing this or could it be something else? RSWORDS sent me over here to ask he's a good friend of mine and he said you guys could probably help me out. Thanks in advance

i think i remember something about having something installed 180* on the wrong side... and having the same problem... i dont remember if it was an internal lever, or that upward shaft you install the linkage on... try taking the linkage off and starting it with someone moving that upward shaft around back and forth, that should allow you to do some investigating:)

I just got it fixed, not really sure how, but I took the throttle linkage back off the shaft and turned the shaft some, hooked it all back up and had a functioning throttle again but the idle was way low. Took it apart 4 or 5 more times just adjusting the shaft with the index marks and had it idling too low, too high, missing during both real bad, then hit the magic spot and it idled perfect where I could adjust it with the screw again and not missing anymore. Thanks for the help, I was baffled last night and this morning but got it worked out and wow its like a different truck.

Sounds like the shaft was turned 180* around, and the lever was pointing at the fender instead of the engine. Your messing around may have turned it enought to get it the right way. Lucky you! ;)

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.
