injector cleaning?

Postby wminmi » Fri Oct 09, 2009 5:24 am

Anybody know of a "how-to" write up on this?

Have around 300k on my '89, and I highly doubt the injectors have ever been cleaned....

Did a search and all I could find was the injector chart and other injector swap posts, nothing about cleaning and re-install.

TIA

Usually, you take them to an injection shop to have them cleaned and pop pressures reset.

Remove is pretty simple- remove the lines and retaining nuts, and pull them out. Ok, the last part is the hard part, but isnt so bad, either.

Only the insides!

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

I took mine apart and soaked the tips and bodies in a tub of carburetor cleaner. If you do it, just do them one at a time, and make sure they are absolutely clean before you put them back together, or your gonna have a leak.

Cleaning the tips off will do very little as far as R&R is concerned. You need to have them checked for opening pressure variance and seating area wear.

That's probably why I couldn't tell a difference before or after. My truck wasn't running rough, I just had the injectors out while the head was being re-surfaced and I was bored.
