those are some tall tall units. i thnk you would have to cut out most everything under the radiator to fit it.

well its a cheap price  and my EGT's are in check (never go over 1200f) i just thought it would flow better than the stock. since stock is 2.5" in and outlets and the 3rd gen has 3" in and oulets and i got the 3" cooler tubes already on the truck. plus im after every bit of horsepower.

im thinking if you get it to fit you will most likely be the first one to have a 3rd gen IC. cooling yes i think it would deffinately cool y adown quite a bit. i say get teh measurements off it and take your grille off and see how far it goes down there. you knwo i think one guy did do a 3rd gen IC. i remember seeing a truck that when y alook from the front you saw a good 8" of intercooler hanging below the grille

i would ... or get one out of a ford .

even the stock 1st gen one isn't that bad .

i've got a 3rd gen intercooler , and too me it looked like it would weaken the frame too much by the amount of material that would have to be removed to make it work .

yep, and iirc he had to cut the first few inches or so off the frame to make it work.

Does the 2nd gen CAC have 3" end on them? I can pick up one for $200 off of craigslist.

I'm considering a 2nd Gen one for the carhauler, mainly because it's easier to install than a P/S one and easier to find.
My only reservation is cutting up a super decent 1st gen I/Ced core support to make it fit.
The cooler will cost me under $100, which is another reason I'm considering 2nd gen stuff.

Any ideas on the efficiency difference between a stock 1st gen 'cooler and a 2nd gen?

Mark.

You can get a 7.3 powerstroke for half that and it will fit better and be an easier install.

And the 7.3 coolers actually fit in there quite well if you do it just right:

No grill trimming or anything un-cosmetic like that really required. 8)

if its big and has no leaks go for it, proven methods arent going to be enough if u are going for high hp...
