Cab fit in bed?

Will a cab fit in the bed?
Considering buying a cab, and need to know if it is a transport option.

Just guessing but from the looks of it I would think it wouldn't fit between the wheel wells. I do think you could lay some 2X6's across the bed rails and put a sheet of 3/4" plywood on top of them and haul one easily on top of the bed. I think the bedsides would hold an empty cab weight just fine, but don't know that for sure so try at your own risk! LOL

Im pretty sure it wont fit, you have to consider how far the firewall sticks out too.

I threw a junk one in a junk chevy once. I was a yard truck so dents were not a problem.

Since everybody misplaced their tape measure I'll give you the dimensions:

BED:
Inside rail to rail=66"
Inside height floor to top of inside rail=19-1/2"
Insider fender well height=13" (actually a bit over 12-1/2" but close enough)
Inside fender well to fender well=48"

Cab, stripped & bare:
At 19" (bed rail height) it is approximately 60" (+-1")

So if you throw a wooden pallet or two between the fender wells and set the cab in sideways on the pallet(s) with the cab floor hump positioned over the wheel well it should fit. I would use a thick pallet and throw a rug over the wheel well on the rear cab side to prevent the cabs back panel from rubbing and bouncing off the wheel well. Without the pallets you could end up with a dent in the rear of the new cab.

Hey, on a side note: I know another Bob from Greene Co. - my cousin Bob. I'm pretty sure you're not him, but I'll bet you've seen him around. He's a Civil engineer for the State and works on the roads and bridges and stuff like that in the area. They have a big farm there, I've been to it only once about 7 years ago.

I took an early retirement due to health reasons. Now I'm just trying to keep beating the odds against me and stick around for a while. Anyhow, I'm generally willing to grab a measurement or help somebody in need from past experiences, weather permitting.

i work for a auto wreckers from time to time when i need parts .

the easiest way i've found to move boxes and cabs is ,

lay several 2x4's across the top of your box so they stick out over each side roughly 6 to 12 inches .

tie them all together ( ie nailing , screwing rope , use your imagination ) so they are spaced out evenly

then strap them down to the box tightly ( in between the box and the cab i run 2 heavy straps down to the frame ) .

then gently lay what ever your trying to transport on top and strap it down to the 2x4's .

I like Bob's idea, it's down in the bed and easier to tie down.
