Weird starter problem

Postby cmann250 » Sat Dec 10, 2011 3:07 pm

I buttoned up the truck today after the 47RH debacle i put myself into. When i went to start it, i turned the key to ON and i got a whining sound followed by a bunch of heavy metallic clicking/popping. I turn the key to START and i get nothing but a couple slow clicks.

The catch: i'm using a 2nd gen starter because i'm running a 47RH at the moment. But i think mechanically, starters are starters. I'd start poking around, but my '89 FSM is somewhere in the mail :x

Any pointers?

Sounds like either the Bendix or Solenoid. Take something heavy and bump the starter.

Oh ya check the battery connections first.

Just to get the info out there, it ended up being the shifter linkage. I didn't have it all the way in park  Which explains why it came and went

And it only took 2 months to figure out? It sure sounded like a starter or electrical problem when you described it.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

He pulled the 47rh and reinstalled his 727 about a month ago. Sometimes you just forget to post results.

When it happened with both transmissions, I figured it had to be something on the truck. I'm getting smarter :D
