Tailgate lights dim

Postby brianjbell » Tue May 01, 2012 8:11 pm

I have a '92 D350. Just installed new LED lights on the tailgate and noticed tonight that they are really dim. Can someone tell me where the ground is located so I can clean and tighten it? Also, any other stuff that I need to check?

Where do you have it grounded? The main ground for the tail lights is just inside the drivers side of the frame in the rear. Just behind the crossmember is a bolt with the wire on it.

I haven't changed anything from stock, but that's not to say that someone else did before I got the truck. Do the tail lights and the tailgate lights ground to the same place?

They shouild, they get power from the same place. Everything is joined right there in the back corner. I don't have my FSM right handy to look for ya.

Black. You can't miss it, it's the one with an eye on it bolted to the frame. ;)

Did you connect any type of load to the circuit? LEDs draw so little power that they'll be dim. If your instrument panel turn signal indicators are light I'll bet that's it.
