Taillights

Postby ahale2772 » Mon Nov 28, 2011 6:51 am

I finally got sick and tired of my taillights, they stockers look good, and I like them, but them GAWD DAIMM sockets kept rotting out!!

ive been through three sets of sockets, one that were completly rotted and two that were ok.... but then had rotted off contacts

anyways, many may hate what these lights now look like, and I'm kinda still warming up to them. i made them quick, whole job was T minus 1hour including wiring 8)

they are simple stop tail turn lights from a tuck supply place, came with the rubber gromet, harness and light for 9 bucks a piece.

wired them up simple, taped up my back up lights (have some mounted on my back rack anyways), going to LED ones soon as I pucker up and buy nice ones

bent up the sheetmetal plates, used the stock taps and nut-certs from the slock lights, the left one came out ok, the right looks like crap. my bed is 100% hacked from the previous owner (i have done zero body work to the truck besides paint) so the lines are all Effed up

anyways... go ahead tell me they look ugly, I dont care because they work 8)

yeah thats what im thinking, but I didnt want to go through blinker issues right away.

correct me if im wrong... the brake and marker circuts will not need load resistors, but each side of the marker circuts will need one correct?

Only issues that I've had with those type LEDs was they back feed into the park lights when stop lights or blinkers are on. I've over came that with a diode in the park lamp feed. The ones I've used were grote or trucklight brand.

so what did the backfeeding do? make the markers go dim/bright?

Im thinking they will mess with my flasher if I put them on without load resistors

They dont look bad at all. And from what i remember yes you need a load on just the blinkers, IMHO it will look great with LEDs and put some white LED backup lights and it would look great.

That will work Alex but you now have a new problem. The OEM tailights have built in side marker lights. So what are your intentions for the required rear side marker lights?

Yeah, I kinda figured that :| ,if i get stopped, ill use the same lights that I have at the very top of my back rack, maxima makes them they are about 3/4 inch with the rubber grommet, very small but you cant miss them.

same ones I had On my bike

still... Im glad I dont need to deal with those stock sockets

No, I'd mash on the brakes and the park lights would come on. Mine worked without the resistors. I believe that they're built differently(they may have it already) than those chicken crap aftermarket twist ins.

I put the LED lights on and it all worked correctly. No diodes, resisters or anything. I think the fronts draw enough to trip the flasher ok. I'm going to add side marker LEDS too this winter.

Alex, I think your bike needs a tire.

Yes, i believe they are electronic flashers, ive got one in it now, so i'll try them without the load resistors first, but I kinda doubt that the front 1157's will be enough load for the whole system.

we will see, im going to buy some led's tonight or tomorrow

the stack piping is a royal cluster FCUK its 4 inch past the t-case then it goes up and above the frame

essentially i just had to modify the death out of about 6 4inch 90's to get up and over the frame, then up to the bed. (i didnt want to cut a bed crossmember to get it thro)

I have to buy it flowers and dinner to get it out of the truck
