Exhaust or Injectors?

Postby nooblet » Tue Mar 25, 2008 9:57 pm

I think I know what the answer to this question is going to be, but I want to see your answers to make sure I'm going with the better option.

I'm either going to put a 4" exhaust, with the stock down pipe and a 5" stack on my truck or buy injectors (probably PoD's). What would you do? Stock turbo with stock housing, stock exhaust with muffler cut out, stock injectors, BHAF, non-intercooled.

I would go the exhaust route to lower EGT's for further upgrades, or am I thinking this will make a larger difference than it will actually make?

If you're not using a 4" DP I would just do the injectors. Honestly I would probably do some 370's instead.

How bad are your EGTs? What will your usage be? If your EGTs are less than horrible I would go with injectors, if they already are super hot, I'd do exhaust.

Wow completely opposite of what I thought the responses would be! This is why I'm always glad I ask these questions!

My EGTs are not bad at all, I just thought they would be bad if i got some larger sticks.

I'm going to see what I can get some 370's for and what I can get some PoD's for. I really don't care about hazing at idle and how much my truck smokes (I live in Texas after all ;) ). If I can get 370's for not much more than PoD's I'll go that route, but I'm not going to spend a lot more for something that is only "more efficient".

Thanks for the replies!

I don't tow and I don't sled pull. This truck is just for driving around town and having fun with.

Yeah if you're just screwing around then I would get injectors.

Your stock injectors will outrun your stock clutch- BTDT in my 91. Save money for a SBC ConFe.

I'd do exhaust myself, based on the potential I have seen with stock nonIC sticks. bgilbert said he didnt see much gain going from stock to PODs.

I won't need a clutch any time soon. My clutch is rated for WAY more power than I will achieve in the next few years.

I bought some POD's. I will hopefully have them in next week. Next on the list will be a turbo and exhaust which I will do at the same time. I know you guys are big advocates for 370's, I just can't help but see more power for less money 8)

You can call me stupid all you want, it won't hurt my feelings... I'm used to it

I think you'll be fine. Where is your fuel screw at right now? Wherever it's at, crank it up =) last trip to the dyno I gained 25hp with just 1/2 a turn closer to runaway.

My fuel screw is only 2.5 turns or so. I plan on cranking it up when I get the PODs in. I'm going to do some major tweaking when I get my injectors set up. Right now I just leave it some what conservative to drive around town with. I really do try hard to not make people eat black smoke at every intersection (unless they deserve it of course  )
