N/IC vs IC pistons

Postby Remps » Thu Oct 08, 2009 4:55 pm

I am wondering if the wider N/IC piston bowl is more tolerant to advanced timing,by that I mean the injector spray pattern staying in the piston bowl better than a I/C piston?Any differences in durability or "side load" on the firing stroke?Which one would be better for max power?

This is my personal opinion, and in no way based on scientific study or research. But, I'd think with the wider bowl (all else being equal) of the nonIC engines, that it'd have a slight advantage for shock dissipitation, and possibly a little more power production. The wider bowl will also lend itself to better super-uber-advance timing, for the reason you stated.

ive noticed pods dont smoke as much with non i/c pistons. spray angle hits bowl a little better i guess.

Ok, but,,, I thought the 9mm spray pattern was different then the 7 mm intercooled sticks???

I believe the non-IC spray angle is a little wider.

the i/c piston is designed for improved emissions.

I've read multiple times that the Non I/C spray angle is 155* and the I/C (even 2nd Gens) are 145*.
