ps intercooler

Postby 1991cummins » Thu Jan 08, 2009 10:16 am

i have found a few... but they want to know if i want one from a vehicle with a catalytic converter or without... i dont know why it would make a difference at the intercooler, but if it does, which one do i need for the conversion?

You want an all aluminum intercooler from a 7.3 PowerStroke. I don't think the catalytic converter has anything to do with the intercooler. As long as its the aluminum one, it's okay.

They asked me the same thing. Some times things are different and they ask wierd questions. I remember looking up brakes for a car once and the books asked weather or not it had a sunroof. That was an easiest way to tell the suspension package the car came with. The only difference I can think of would one being plastic tanks and the other with aluminum tanks. I also know lots of times the computer will ask questions and if you take the time to look it up both ways you still get the same part number. I said "well which one do you have" they only had one so I had them pull it for me and it was the aluminum one so I bought it. I do not remember which one I ended up with. ( converter or no converter ).

I have a few pictures.

Every thing removed, holes cut for i/c tubes.

Cut radiator sides for clearence for i/c pipes

Installed with tube grill

There are a lot of things I did not take pictures of. I did not have room for my a/c condensor. The tranny cooler just fits behind the tube grill. I also had to rebuild the area where the cooler tubes go through the core support. The area that has to be cut is the structure part of the whole core support. This is with the non intercooled core support. It will be different then the factory i/c core supports.
