Injector Question

Postby collegekid » Sun May 15, 2011 3:28 pm

What do ya'll think of SDX Injectors 5x.014 for a tow/daily driver, coupled with 4" exhaust, BHAF, Fuel Pin, 3200 spring, dual electric fans, 14cm exhaust housing, pump maxed and 60mm compressor wheel upgrade?

Never make it, too hot. The 60mm wheel on the stock compressor won't flow enough air to keep it cool, especially towing. I have more air mods than you, smaller injectors (5x.012) and hit 15-1600 at top end just stomping on it. Towing is an excerise in misery as I try to keep it cool when pulling hills. Bigger turbo is the way to go, or a set of twins.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

What I have in my sig for the 91 is a good towing set up. Most important, I don't have the fuel screw cranked in much.
RIP 91.5 W250 5 speed. The great experiment.

How does the timing device work, I see it appears to be just a spacer, but whats the mechanics behind it?

It simply increases the distance the piston can travel allowing for more advance as case pressure builds with RPM. Some people shave the piston to accomplish the same thing. You can still bump the pump timing, but for towing you want to retain as much of your low end torque as you can.

Ahh, gotcha, I know these trucks arent designed to have both low and high end torque unless theyre twin-turboed, so what is an alternative to twins that will get me the low end torque I need for towing, but also high end torque and hp for everyday highway driving?

toombs, if I ran that same setup as I started with, with 7x10 injectors, and a s300 64 coupled up to a s400, you think that'll move enough air

7x10's I think are smaller than 5x14's...

Get the 5x14s with a good twins set up (s300 62 over s400 would be good) and love it.

Make sure you get a nice clutch!

Oldest, Im thinking a 13" Southbend clutch, and you think Ill need an upgraded input shaft? There are some decent sized hills around here and I dont wanna be halfway up one and snap the splines over

You want the smaller input shaft size. 1-1/4" IIRC....

Yes definitely 13".

The Con-OFE or Con-FE for the best holding power.

Call them up and ask for Peter. Great guy to deal with!
