he351ve oil lines, water lines?

Postby IrishChamp » Thu May 09, 2013 2:43 pm

well I finally pulled the trigger on an adaptor off ebay. Image
I'm pretty sure this is straight forward but better safe than sorry. Also, I've never really found any threads specifically addressing the oil lines with pictures so maybe this can become an informative post for someone else once I'm done with the installation.
My question is: which openings are the oil lines? On this side I believe I use the smaller one next to the wires as the inlet correct? I'm guessing the other is a water line for the factory electronics? (pic below)
Image
On this side (the bottom) I use the odd shaped hole with the bolt holes above and below correct? do any of the openings need to be plugged, they're just water ports correct, ports I will not use and can just leave alone, open, untouched? (pic below)

If I'm not mistaken all the factory oil lines on my 93 w250 should be the same, no custom lines needed. If anyone knows otherwise please let me know!

You are correct on the oil lines. I have heard mixed things on the coolant part, some guys run without, and some plumb coolant lines to it, block off the factory ports for the electronics and run it.

Thanks for the input, so you're saying find threaded plugs for the water ports, don't just leave them open?

You can leave them open, no biggie. What I meant was that the ports on the side where the VGT controller is, plug those if you run coolant, and are going to control the vanes manually, without the controller.

Gotcha, I don't think I'm going to run coolant through it, unless there turns out to be a legitimate need for it. I'm just going to hook the vanes up to a locking choke cable for now I think. I'll rig up a drive pressure controller later.

That's good news!
I hadn't driven my truck much in a while, took it out yesterday for a spin and really got into it getting on the highway. Anyway, pyrometer was flying past 1500 when I glanced at it so I let off. I don't remember having this much fuel before, seems like my truck really wants the he351ve installed! Now if DAP would return my phone call or email so I can get a downpipe!

Btw, what downpipe are you using? I also have a lead on an hx40 downpipe, OD of the v band clamp flange is the same OD as the turbo lip, I just don't know if it'll actually clamp up.
