Got bored and ground on my fuel pin

Postby gear jammer 91" » Wed Jul 09, 2008 7:12 pm

So, I had nothin better to do tonight so I pulled my fuel pin and got the grinder out. I'm pleased with the result but I think I might be able to safely take a little more off If I had a better grinding bit. What do you guy's think.

The only grinding bit I had was a stone bit that was about a half inch in diameter. I just went out and bought a new grinding bit that is only about 3/16 in diameter, so I should be able to get the rest of that unneeded metal out of there.

RE: fuel pin grind

Postby captcavy » Thu Jul 10, 2008 4:37 pm

hey gear jammer 91", buy you a dennyt stage II fuel pin, its the best pin out there, hardened stainless steel, cnc machined, he even polishes the
cut side to a mirror finish, the pin dyno'd 52hp at the rear wheels,
he sells the pin for 100.00 dollars shipped to the door, you cant grind a stock
pin to even compare to this pin, just some info for you, shelby, aka captcavy
I bought one but havent installed it yet, it is a beautiful pin.

dennyt fuel pin

Postby captcavy » Fri Jul 11, 2008 2:46 am

here's a good picture, pin on left is a bully dog, middle pin is factory
the pin on the right is a dennyt stage I pin, the stage II pin is even better
it is cut deeper allowing maximum fuel, cant go any more deeper otherwise
the fuel pin wouldnt touch the pin in the pump at the deepest point, shelby

in one of the above posts it is mentioned that the fuel screw can be turned in untill the marred threads from the collar are about to enter the pump...
mine wasn't even close i got about 3/4-1.5 turns and thats it.
any thoughts?

There is a shoulder in the screw hole that the o-ring on the screw seals against. The screw will only go in this far, it starts to bind. If you go farther, there is a good chance the fuel will start to leak around the screw because you ruined the sealing surface. Mine is in this far and where the collar was isn't near the lock nut.

I run a stage 2, and I upgraded to it from an already very ground pin and man, what a difference. Its time for me to do my lift pump now lol.

is it possible...

Postby T.winegar » Sat Jul 12, 2008 3:17 pm

could a person fill in the back side of the stock fuel pin with a wire-feed welder(just barely enough to make it a full pin), then take a grinder to it and make it look like like a custom built one like the stage II?

I don't see why not. The only question would be the hardness of the welded material.
