What happened to my smoke?

Postby dpuckett » Sun Nov 09, 2008 7:51 am

I FINALLY got around to changing the lift pump on my pickup to the piston style pump I bought at SOP (it IS hard to change it when the truck is 3 states away). Took it for a test drive, and the smoke went from (my guess based on past trucks) 30-35% to about 5%- just a haze at WOT. Gained a lot of bottom and mid range performance to boot. I would highly recommend the piston pump, even if you arent going all out in the BOMBing.

But that leaves the question of what happened to the smoke? I got to pondering, and came up with this idea: The new pump is getting all pressure and volume my VE can use at this time, allowing the IP to compound the pressure better and better atomze the fuel when it gets to the cylinder. Any better ideas?

I was hoping this thread would be about your tailpipe... ;-) Just had to say something since Pete didn't!

I noticed the exact same thing with my install today. Kinda curious myself. Def has lots more power than the stocker. Enough to kill my clutch--slips with 3/4 throttle in 3rd 4th and 5th.

Well, I know how to hook them up, but Bill is the expert on how to make them work. His was pretty nasty at SOP. ;)

I have found that if I want some alone time all I need to do is add Rasin Bran. Then chase that with beans and I will be working all by myself. 8)

We had a one-man reenactment of the Blazing Saddles campfire scene at SOP5.
