What do you think?

Postby Oddfire » Sat May 16, 2009 5:11 pm

With the curent tune of the 6BT in my sig, I feel the diaphram lp is holding me back more than anything. I have a H1C/WH1E hybrid about ready to go on, but I am getting a slight miss during heavy fueling. I do plan to step up to a super HX40, and or maby twins some time down the road and would like to upgrade accordingly.

So, on the subject of lift pumps, what do yall advise?????

Depends on what you want to do, up to 400 hp a piston lift pump is the way to go. If you want to go all out, run an A-1000 with a boost referenced regulator. Another option is to run both the piston lp and walbro together.

The truck is my daily driver, so I can't afford to have it down for 2 or 3 days until I get parts. Is there a kit for plumbing the piston lp into the VE system with out needing to spend days hunting fittings? Or do I need to mock up a kit?

Link doesn't work, but there is a list of part numbers for everything you need floating around somewhere, maybe one of the other guys will be kind enough to get it to you.

Piston pump install:
http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/d...ad.php?t=93722

Here's a link over to a wright up on how to do the piston pump install that was posted over on DTR. It's a good wright up with pictures and the part numbers. I did this upgrade on my truck, it's definitely worth the time and really only takes about an hour. I was able to cut the insulation that needs to be removed with a box knife.

As the others have said, the piston lift pump is the way to go.

I think that everybody is thinking weird.

I'll take this ISX fuel pump mounted on the air conditioning mounting bracket, with a serpentine pulley instead of the gear.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CUMMINS- ... 500wt_1373

I'll feed it directly into the shut-off solenoid hole, cap off the vane pump outlet, remove the vanes, put an electronic or boost-referenced regulator on the return of the pump, or play with orifice sizes until I find one that works.
