Low-compression pistons on the street?

Postby Begle1 » Sun Oct 28, 2007 5:04 pm

It's pretty impossible to run the 15.3 ratio pistons without having lots of blue smoke all the time, right?

Has anybody ever ran them on a daily driver?

Depends on your timing injectors and outside air temps. I have several 15.3 motor in daily drivers running around that don't smoke at all once warmed up. 8)

Factory compression is 17.5:1. How thick is the stock H.G? I have the .020 over, and it starts fine if I let the grids warm up.

I'd think if you had the right injectors, timing, and air flow, you wouldnt smoke much, cold or warm. Lot of N14s are in the 14.5-16:1 range.

Heck, a 6.9 IDI with a 22:1 compression will smoke if the fuel system isnt up to snuff.

A 0.060" gasket is about stock thickness.

Should I expect a mileage drop with them?

What about starting troubles?

I have a set of marine pistons I've been saving to use in a build..I've been nervous about trying them, as I snowplow and drive my truck alot in real cold weather..not sure how they would be in 0 degree temps..any one know?
Thanks

They would be fine with a good load, but not without. They also would not build as nuch heat. I would save them for more of a toy and leave the high comp pistons for snow plowing.
