Towing with A Locker ??

Postby tampabayBill » Thu Aug 23, 2012 7:49 am

Anyone tow with a Detroit Locker or any other locker. If so how does it effect handling ? I'm thinking about a locker but tow a 35ft travel trailer, just looking for some info. Thanks in advance.

i towed with my locker (detroit) and never had a problem, just got to be sure to let off the throttle before going around a turn so it will unlock. and if ya have to get into the throttle while turning, be easy on it. i was worried for a while about breaking an axle there for a while, but once you get used to it, its not a problem

If you get the ARB air-locker, or the Detroit (E-locker?), you can turn it on and off. :)

The stock locker (Powr Lock?) is a darn good one. I had no problems towing close to 15-16k.

I put in a Powr Loc last winter, now I barely spin the tires when i take off hard, it just launches! The truck needs to be spooled pretty good to spin them. 8)

Lockers are no fun on ice, I nearly lost a truck that way so I won't have one. I would like to have something when I'm towing to stop that 1 wheel spin during launch. I would opt for the ARB or the like, one you can turn on or off depending on conditions.

The eaton gov-loc (g80 option) was designed to stop the ice issues to a degree. It wont lock above 25mph if i recall correctly, no climbing hills and doing 360s.

It is alittle finicky of a locker though, takes 100rpm differential wheel speed to lock.

I had one in my chev and it worked well, just had to pay attention when locking alittle bit. I didnt have the power of a diesel either though.
