Fuel shutoff solenoid leaking

Postby hydroshok » Sun Oct 07, 2012 3:52 pm

I just installed my gov spring and the truck tried to runaway. It was scary, but I got it shut down by cutting off the air with a board over the turbo inlet and using the manual shutoff lever. Now fuel is coming up out of my fuel shutoff solenoid when the truck is running. It is leaking near the top somewhere, but I can't see anything to tighten it save for the 8mm nut on the stud for the electrical connection.

I searched, but couldn't find anything about them leaking. The top bolt for the electric connection is tiny so I don't want to crank on it too much.

Did it break due to the runaway condition or should I buy one and tighten it till it stops or I break it? Thanks!

You tighten it down by the flats on its body, should be shaped like a nut. Did you have it out? Could the leak be from the pump tops gasket instead?

I have not had it out. I wipe it off and the fuel seems to ooze out the top.The rest of the pump is dry. I have no clue how the runaway could have caused that. I don't think I bumped it or hit it, but I was in a panic so I don't really know. Guess I'll snag one tomorrow and tighten it down while its running and post my findings.

Since I never had it out; I didn't know how it was assembled and how far the fuel could get inside it. So tightening that nut isn't going to do anything right? Can I just go to a plumbing shop, plug it, and use my pull cable? Or is that a bad idea? Thanks for the responses btw!

A few folks here have drilled and tapped them for case pressure gauges so stands to reason that you could do the same thing and only use a plug in the body of the solenoid. As far as being rid of the complete solenoid....thats not gonna happen. Those threads on the solenoid are fine thread so finding a plug would be nearly impossible
