Truck won't start

Postby BREEZE1 » Thu Dec 27, 2012 12:14 pm

Sorry guys I didn't search the web for 10 hours for my problems. I'd rather tell you my semptoms. So if someone could point me in the right direction, I'd really aprecate it.

I bought a 91.5 w250 auto truck about two weeks ago. I've had it cut off on me a few times when I'm in the throttle and then let out of it. Then when I start it up a have to throttle it up and it has a ruff idle until I can get it going down the road. Finally it died on me Monday. I checked the fuel filter and it was full, so does that mean my lift pump is ok? Is it my injector pump? I did prime my lift pump a little before I checked the filter. At one time the lift pump didn't feel it was pumping, then after I purged am fuel filter it felt like it was pumping. Thanks for the advice in advance.

Sounds like an inlet sucking air to me. Check the rubber lines right as they come off the frame to the LP. If they're good I'd bet on the lines coming off the top of the fuel tank. Either the rubber is bad or the hardline there is rusty.
It could technically be anywhere along the framerail, but those are the trouble spots.

I do think it has a fuel leak where one of the hard lines are going into some sort of manifold.

Any sort of leak will typically let the fuel siphon back to the tank when it's shut off. If fuel can get out air can get in.

Thanks for the info. Is there some way to bleed the air out so I can start it up to get her home?

Ehhh, if its on the suction side that's gonna be tough. Best you can hope for is to crack the hose at the IP inlet and pump till the bubbles stop, then crack the injector lines at the injector and crank it over until a few of them are spraying.

It should start at that point, unless the FSS wire fell of for something.

Glad to hear it. :D

Keep a 17mm or 11/16 wrench in the glovebox wherever you go, an extra fuel filter and a quart of ATF wouldn't hurt either. Typically that'll be all it takes to get these trucks going again if you have a fuel problem.
