Yeah, on the left rear framerail.
The valve pulsates back and forth, which is why the pedal "vibrates" on a 1stgen, but with no movement over 20 odd years, many of them will stick in one position or the other.
SOMETIMES it sticks at the bottom of the bore and can cause the mushy/low pedal feeling.

Mark.

The brake and abs lights came on while I was coming home from work today. I had a few minutes to look it over a bit before it got dark out. The small chamber in the master cyl is low. Went around back to look at the inside rear tires expecting to see evidence of a leaking wheel cyl, and they were both dry. The last time I popped a line, it was between the abs and rear axle. Doubt I can get that lucky again. Oh pickles...

Jeff, as you know the front reservoir is the supply for the rear brakes.
The fluid may have been absorbed by the valve in it's moment of "workiness".

It may also be a leaking wheel cylinder and the fluid hasn't made it to where you can see it on the backing plates/drums, yet.

Sudden differences in brake pedal travel make me REAL nervous. :?

It was low enough that I figured I should be able to find a leak somewhere. Plus, they were getting worse on the way home. I planned my stops and downshifted as much as I could. I totally agree on the changing pedal. I put a neon together tonight (cuz it fits in my garage) so I can get to work the rest of the week, until I have a chance Friday to mess with my turd in the daylight.

Do a DOT brake sag test.
Sit in the seat, pump the brakes until they are as firm as you can get them, then put firm pressure on the pedal and try to maintain it. Don't MASH it, just maintain.
If it kinda' sags slowly and won't maintain the pedal, there's a leak somewhere.

Oftentimes people pump the brakes, feel that the pedal is "up" and don't do that last little test.

It's helped me diagnose a few. ;)

Lol! I'm not upset that it did it. Its nearly 20 yrs old. Stuff happens. But why couldn't it happen last weekend when it was near 60? That's why it has me slightly miffed. This will be a driveway project, so it will have to wait until I have a chance to fix it in daylight. Flaring brake line in 20deg weather in the dark? I don't think so Tim!

That's that damned ol' Murphy at work.
Look on the brighter side, at least it didn't do it with a loaded car trailer on, while rolling down a mountain grade, talk about panic!

Get an exhaust brake.

I have an exhaust brake for it! I just need to figure out a downpipe. Installing my 60lb springs wouldn't hurt either.

I agree on the cummins in the Jag, but why in a Jag? Why not a crappy car? I think i would put on a hood scoop to hide the piping and valve covers, but I guess cutting a hole and painting it is ok too.
