Ya there a hex head,it just seemed any size I tried didnt fit the bolt head very tight? I wondered if they where kinda odd ball sized that would require a certain size but 12 point to fit right?

Pretty sure the ARP's are 14mm 12 point...

Ya... maybe they were a 15? The more I think about it I used a loose fitting SAE to get them out.

Reason I brought up the 12 point is, I was hoping maybe you had a 12 point of some sort already in there...which would of meant you had aftermarket studs or bolts already how cool would that of been?

I am 90% sure it is a 14mm. The other 10% is 15mm.

Best bet is to use a 6 point. Won't round the heads as easily. The only reason why I like 12pts are for square nuts and 12pt nuts.

I can't remember what size the headbolts are either. I kinda think I used a 3/4 or 18mm on them, they were bigger than 15mm......

Mike, on the pushrods, put a small dab of grease on the end. If it's in the socket on the tappet when you pull up it will have a little resistance from the suction. If you miss it will come right up. ;)

Good call, I would have just used some assembly lube on them,I'll put some of the staplex "sticky" red grease on them...just a lil dab.

Thanks!

There weird?? the 17mm end wrench dont fit the 11/16 end wrench ,if ya really force it will fit? I dont have an 18mm 12 point, seems the 6 point was sloppy.I found a 1/2" drive 12 point 11/16 socket that fit them nicely. 8)

Thanks again guys.

Just got to get that damn fuel return line loose, that fitting back there is tough to get to and its tight! Trying not to screw that up...But ya just get that fitting off there and take the head bolts out and remove the head and start cleaning  Ended up breaking one exhaust manifold bolt.

I think I would like to replace all them manifold bolts and the turbo mounting studs.

Do I need to get them through cummins or is there another source for them??

Thanks guys!

Probably be cheaper to just order some grade 8 studs to replace them.

I agree there just freaking bolts!lol I called around and found some stainless 8.8 allen head bolts with H.D washers and lock washers locally for a fraction of the cummins cost. 8)

Incase someone some day is searching this. I went with 10x1.50x70 mm for the manifold mounting bolts...went a lil longer for the extra washers.Sticking with some grade 8 studs and nuts for the turbo mounting flange, got to be able to tighten those with a wrench, its tight in there for a couple of them.10x1.50x30mm

My new head just showed up  damn that thing is HEAVY! UPS said 140lbs :|
