Genuine Dodge factory tachometer -sucha-deal?

Postby monoblock » Tue Feb 19, 2013 4:08 pm

Am I missing something or do the 40+ people who have already bid over $400 for a Dodge diesel Tach know something we do not?
It is a Made in Japan tach with a Chrysler part number 56004110.
It is listed on Flea Bay by a reputable seller
http://www.ebay.com/itm/251228866026?ss ... 1423.l2649
Item # : 251228866026

I am a noob so maybe I am not understanding that a tach could be worth $500?

If the prospective buyers would join our Forum they would learn that an Isspro will work off the factory wiring for about $100+
http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/dev/ ... 51909.html
I remember this happening to Chevy BelAir parts prices a few years ago....Maybe 1st Gens are going the same way?

I seen that ad when it first came out. Like you, I didn't figure it would go for that much (I thought maybe $200.00). I have no idea why it's selling for that kind of money. A few months ago I seen a NOS one go for $350.00. I know ISSPRO sells one for our trucks for around $100.00 or so, but alot of guys like the OEM look better.

Mr. SuperiorRam,
You got a blazing deal! The bidding is now $400 and still an hour to go.
I hope this thread helps a few forum members make a little extra cash by selling some old parts like this tacho.

I've been saying for a couple years that the 1stgens are headed the way of the old Mopar Muscle Cars and I was right.
Oh how I so WISH I WERE WRONG!!!

Back in the day, I saw an "NOS" 6 Pack air filter element go for well over a grand on Ebay and well before that I was convinced that these people are stark freaking raving MAD. :alien:

In another 5 years there's going to be 2 tiers of these trucks, really nice "original low miles" and projects that just sit.
I'm already seeing a few of both now.
More pointedly, parts are getting tougher to come by.
Better grab some nice OEM sheet metal while you can, because it's going to be a long, hard road, if you don't! :grrr:

It's already that way.....

How in the f-in' terd is a 1st gen with "low miles" (probably never fixed the tach that broke) and a 5 speed worth 10-15k ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

It is very common for 1st gens to go for more than 2nd gens

Tell me WHY I can't get $2500 for a really decent 1 ton that needs a few things fixed?
I've been offered MORE for it than that as a re-power candidate, but I'm not about to sell it to some joker to make a POS Ford or Chevy a "better" truck and ruin a perfectly good 1stgen!

If it comes down to that, I'll do something else with it myself, Thanks.

Mark.

I have seen 1st gen prices creep up lately too. Safe to say I won't be buying another  I'd be hard pressed to give $6k for a 4x4 in decent shape and 2nd gens are starting to creep into my price range then. Or those abominable FORDS , whose prices have already peaked and are coming back down.

I said this before and I think it is worth repeating. ANY electronic device openly exposed to the environment has an average shelf life of around 20 years, give or take 5 years depending upon the quality of the original components. Resistors from 20 years ago slowly soak up humidity which causes them to go out of tolerance. Capacitors on the other hand loose capacitance by drying out. If you do not think this is true then by all means spend some time on any of the antique radio restoration forums. If you place a high value on these OEM tachs then you better know how to trouble shoot them or have somebody locally that can assist you. If not, then when it fails as ALL electronic devices eventually do, you got about a pound of vehicle scrap worth the going rate at your local auto crusher.
