New Head Arrived

I hope it isn't a Chinese piece of junk...

I wouldn't worry about Chinese quality, a lot of Cummins parts are made in many different places.
Let's face it, everyone wants parts for a cheap price, sometimes in doing that quality may suffer.

BTW, I have seen and heard of MORE USA heads being cracked than any other.

Also, since there are obviously CUMMINS numbers cast into it, it likely IS a Cummins-Authorized part.

Nice job! They used a surface grinder on mine, whatever that is. It only cost $40 so I thought that was ok.

Drill out the fuel filter holes while it's sitting there.

Hey Pete!
What is this fuel filter hole trick? Is there a sticky or something on that?

Nope, no sticky. I was just looking at the bottom of the new head and saw that the 1 hole is really small. I had thought of it before about drilling that hole a little larger to get more fuel thru it. We go to all the work of drilling banjo fittings, why not the head too? Now is the time, it's accessable and you can clean it out easy afterwards. Just don't drill into the gasket area..... ;)
I thought of doing mine, but I think it's getting a remote filter to handle a lot more flow.

Thanks, I will look at that.
On aside, I am going to mill the intake log off my cracked head and figure out where I can drill and tap the head face for attaching an intake manifold. I want to be able to get at the intake ports with a carbide burr!

Took your advice Pete!
Worked up to a 1/2" bit and made sure the hole didn't intersect the gasket contact area.
Will be interesting to see if my top end fueling improves!

Funny Pete! Now I have that insidious song stuck in my head!

@Black93, I ran it out to defuel in the first 4 gears and I apparently don't have the sticks (or pump) to flow enough fuel for that mod to make a huge difference.

I would say my truck is 1-2% quicker now with the new head overall, the part throttle power being the most noticeable. It is also running much more smoothly and smokes less, even in the lag.
