Did you weld on that truck anytime?
That roller and cam plate look for the world like it's arced.
How the HELL that could happen is beyond me. :?

While I'm waxing philosophical, see if the bigger springs still have spring tension.

I am pretty certain that tit is still on the camplate. I will double check and also I have welded on the truck before and I don't know how in the world that would happen.

What about a faulty pressure regulator valve?

I'm just looking at the evidence provided.
I find it intriguing that, by the pics provided, the 1 roller has (apparent) pitting and only 1 small area of the cam plate has similar damage.

If it were rust related, I'd expect to see more pitting elsewhere in the pump. Is there?

There was no other pitting in the pump.

Measure the larger springs free height, then crush them tight and see if they return to the same height again.
If they don't, they have been hot and are de-tempered.

Think back, is there a chance the battery cable arced to the pump, or did you not have a direct ground to the engine from the battery?

Where did you connect a ground to when you welded on the truck?

Shoot this truck has been welded upside down and hasn't had a problem over the past year. My ground for the negative is run through the frame.

From here that appears to be arc burns on those 2 parts.
Otherwise there really is no other explanation for it.

Springs don't like funny business like that, check them out.

The ground cable off of the battery, should be connected to the motor (as it was at the factory). The rest of the much lighter chassis ground connections and the wiring are having to take the load.

I suspect Mark is right around the arcing in the pump. Doesn't look like water contamination has been an issue to cause the damage on the camplate and roller. Would see scarring and pitting elsewhere.

You can see my battery cable setup here at the bottom of the page. I have 2/0 battery cable attaching the frame to the battery and up front I have the same 2/0 connecting the engine to the frame.

Should've said that to begin with.

Somehow, some way that pump got arced, be it by the electrical system somehow, or by welding.
I'm almost of the mind that it happened right around the time that it died.

Checked the springs for tension, yet?

If you're not going to at least contemplate what I'm suggesting and check it out, then why come here and ask for help?

I haven't had time to check it yet. I will get it on here soon. I appreciate the advice.

I got 1.322" on distributor plunger spring height and and 1.309" after I fully compressed it in the vise. Is this close to stock measurement? I also measured the governor springs at 1.019" but I didn't fully compress them cause I'm worried that all I'm doing is plastic deformation on it.

I think I know what the arc could be caused by. I cranked this truck with the new engine by touching the solenoid wire to the starter on the 12v wire for the fuel stop solenoid. You are probably right Mark because I remember taking the distributor head off that it did not come off evenly and did not spring out of the pump body like other pumps I have seen.
