i was thinking of some way to push it off but like you said since i cant put any force on that backing plate theres not many places to push against. I might try and get a wedge in between the two bolts that cant thread out and the oil inlet and outlet that their stuck under and then try heatig it and see if that doesnt move it any. I probably need more heat to cause after trying for a couple hours last night a propane torch wasnt really doin it. its been soaking in PB all night so well see wat happens today.

Ok I don't know what to do anymore. Been beating this thing with the biggest hammer I got. Put it on top of my wood stove since the torch wasn't cutting it and got it real hot and it hasn't moved at all. The only thing that's changed is now the shaft has a good bit of in and out play which it didn't until I started getting real mad at it and really hit it. I feel like I'm doing something wrong cause I've been beating it all day and all that's happening is the housing is starting to look real bad from the hammer. Don't know if I should just leave it soak in some more PB and leave it for later or what. Thanks for any help

I took a look-see at my shelf-dwelling H1C and I think that if you backed out the bolt by the oil feed to the point where it was putting a bit of a load on the housing, heat, oil, and responsible use of a big hammer would pop it off.

I've heard Marvel's Mystery oil is good stuff, may be worth a try. Also, I've always had more luck hitting something (relatively) lightly with a BFH than wailing on something with a claw hammer.

Ye. Once I got to the point of beating it with a smaller hammer I knew that wasn't the best so I had to work with what I got in a rented garage at school which was an axe head with a sledge on the back welded to a piece of square stock and tapped it with that and it didn't do anything I'm gonna try doing what u said and put some pressure on it with that bolt. I did try that befor but didn't try hitting it at the same time. Ill see what happens and thanks for the input.

I can see where this is going, just like it's happening in slow motion.
All you need is more heat.

Finally got it. Lots of heat was the key. Was starting to think that it would never come off. Thanks for the help

Clean it good and Neverseize the living siht out of it before you put it back on. Just in case you need to pull it again. ;)

So I got it all put back together and now its got a bit of shaft play. Is this normal or should it not have any play at all cause it didn't before I started working on it. Followed everything it said to do in the service manual just don't want to put it back on if there's something wrong and end up messing up something else. Thanks

Radial or in and out play?
I've rebuilt many and some radial play is normal, you won't get away from it.
Keep in mind, radial play is more pronounced on a dry turbo.

Radial no in and out. And I was thinking it had a bit to do with it being dry. I'm gonna see if I can't get a teacher in the diesel shop at school to look at it before I put it back on to make sure its all good seeing as I'm still waiting on gaskets
