Popping radiators

Postby mhuppertz » Sun Mar 24, 2013 3:37 pm

I thought my truck was eating radiators because of the head gasket leak, but I just hauled a 1969 Camaro and my 1956 Plymouth from 4,500ft to 7,000 and I blew another one! Maybe I need to run lower pressure caps or something...

I'm wanting to say the stock cap is 15 or 16 pounds.

I'd not be supprised if replacement radiators are not as good as OE like alot of stuff is becoming.

Never popped an OEM or replacement radiator on a Cummins truck ever.
Gotta' be other issues.

When my head gasket was out it way over pressured my radiator, so maybe put a pressure tester on it just to be sure
And yes the stock caps are 15 or 16

It might just be bad luck. I will pull the fan when I get a chance and see what the damaged part looks like.

When you have popped them have you noticed what your temps were?

Did you change the thermostat when you did the head? If so, what brand did you put in?

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

One from a Case dealer is equivelant, that's where mine came from. Aftermarket ones just suck for some reason.
