Truck doesnt die right off after injector pump rebuild

Postby Dodgebob1980 » Tue Apr 02, 2013 6:53 pm

Ok i had my pump rebuilt at a local shop. The guy that did it has been doing it for ever. It was doing great but after about a hundred miles it doesnt die right off now. Any ideas? If it is pump internal ill just take it to him. Hopefully i wont have to pull it back off.

If it isn't shutting off, then it's probably the FSS plunger..... but I've in the past had an issue with a vehicle that it took a few seconds to shut off.... turned out to be a bad ground. Grounds do goofy stuff..

It dies slowly like its winding down, a second or less after key shut off, my other 12v just dies. this one was working great, still runs the same just dies slow, no pause just slows down til it dies

I think your FSS plunger rubber is torn.

You may/should be able to mill it down and salvage it while making it more reliable.

I hope its that easy i dont want to pull pump if i dont have to. Just for thought what if the fss was loose, just backed out a bit maybe?

If the FSS was loose, you'd most likely have a very obvious fuel leak. (They're usually a PITA to loosen).

Does it take a special tool to pull the FSS? And, do you have to bleed the system after replacing one?

Not sure looks like a regular wrench will work but a real bear to get to. the guy that rebuilt it said it wont hurt anything so ill probably just put a cable on the manual shutdown. Easy fix.

No special tools, no bleeding of the system. Just almost impossible to get to.

Only thing that can happen is if the fss plunger rips off they can get lodged in the delivery valves and eventually into the injector body. You'll know because you won't have any power.....

Take a crescent wrench and break off the top of the flat bracket on the end of the pump. Partially cutting it with a hacksaw or grinder will help. Since it was just rebuilt the FSS should come out fairly easily. Use a 15/16 wrench and rip it outta there! It's not that big of a job really. ;)

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.
