Leaking injection pump

Postby Fred_M1010 » Mon Apr 01, 2013 11:30 am

My injection pump has started to leak pretty bad while the engine is running.
It seams to be leaking from the gasket marked "B" in the picture.
So I'll have to dissassemble the pump and change that one.
Do you have any pointers for me?
Is it an easy job that can be done with the pump still attached to the engine, or do I need to tear it all down?

And secondly, I'm curious about the shaft marked "A"...
What does that one do?
It had an arm attached to it (I removed it to see if it was leaking from the seal of the shaft, but it didn't),
but there wasn't anything attached to the arm :?:

The "A" are is the shutoff lever. Shoulda been a spring that held that arm forward. That arm needs to be in a certain spot when you reassemble it, I took mine off once and got it a spline off. It would barely idle because it was trying to kill the fuel to it.

I don't think it'll actually hurt anything if you don't get it right, just be another headache when you try to start it.

If your fss still works, you can do a trial and error thing.

Turn it clockwise as far as you can, then bring it back one notch. Start truck and use that lever to kill the truck. If it won't than clock it one more tooth counter clockwise...... continue until it will turn the truck off.

Thanks, I'll try that.

But does anyone have any insight in what's involved in changing that gasket?

And regarding the gasket, I was thinking about checking with the local tractor parts dealers...
But I'm not so sure they will know what I talk about when I tell them it's for a Dodge W250
Anyone know what tractor application this pump has been used for :?:

You'll need to pick up that o ring from a bosch dealer. It's a specific size, if it's not exact it'll leak again..... .trurst me LOL.

The leak isn't around the shaft, but between the two parts of the housing (at B in the pic)
I would guess there's a regular gasket there, or do you mean that it's a big o-ring along the outer edge of the housing?

 I was talking about the wrong spot.

However, it is a o ring style gasket for the top to bottom seal as you are looking for.
