have you narrowed it down to the engine? on my '93 a bearing in the over drive housing went out an took the cage and everything and ground it up. started out sounding like i have a set of super swamper boggers on the truck then got louder and louder till it sounded like the trany was grinding up steel. just a thought. i also had the trany lines vibrating and the lead me to think it was a worse problems than it was.

Welcome to the site. It would help if you gave specs on the truck transmission, 4x4 or 2x4, what rpm it happens at etc.

I assumed it wasn't my transmission its been rebuilt about 20,000 miles to go

actually I just tightening torque converter bolts some "Jack wagon "strip one out but I don't think it was rubbing against the engine but come to think of it I didn't narrow it down to the engine
what's got me stumped is my pump was leaking really bad that's why I took the course I did
I'd really hate to put this thing back together and miss something .
of course while it out I want to do rings and bearings head studs new head gasketyou know just to freshen up

I would be looking at the transmission myself especially since a converter bolt was stripped.

Was the bolt missing that was stripped?

I've not had that issue but since you found torque converter bolts loose and stripped what do you think they slacked on in the rebuild would be what I was wondering. Now if you did it yourself it kills part of that theory. Also have you checked transfer case fluid to make sure it hasn't been ran dry

So, does it only do it while moving? While moving forward? While moving backward? While in 4x4? While in 2x4? With the stereo tuned to 101.5?

Gotta get a lot more specific, man, there's just too much potential stuff for it to be. The better description you can give of the symptoms, the closer our remote guessing is going to be.

so it only makes a noise when the motor is running its so bad of a noise that the first thing I checked was the dowel pin coming out to my surprise it was fine so I tabbed it it doesn't seem to be related to transmission although I haven't ruled it out its a real metal metallic sound growling coming from sounds like one of the cylinders but I've already ruled that out because the cylinders look fine I'm down to the head .my brother thinks it could be in my power steering pump but it works fine
could it be possibly my turbo?
the turbo spins freely because I spend it with my finger no bad sounds but does that rule out a bad turboand I didn't get to drive enough to know if the turbo went bad power wise

Dazed
I didn't do the rebuild myself I bought this truck with the rebuild and talk to the shop who did it seem to be legitimate guys its a factory and he told me the specs don't seem to have a problem other than this bolt which it could have been this bold but I will never know until I put the engine back together and I don't want to put together and find out that it wasn't

Well, if the truck doesn't have to be in motion that does narrow it down a bit. It could still be in the trans but it's nothing on the output side or the transfer case.
