A power lok is the factory limited slip.

There are many versions of a "Limited Slip".
A "Power Lock", by Dana, is the 4 pinion clutch type differential that uses a ramp design on the spider cross pins to compress the clutches.
The Track lock is a 2 pinion clutch type design that typically mimics GM's design, Ford employs a version of this in nearly all of the later 9 inch stuff.
Then you have the cone and cup locker, a cone pre-loaded by several springs into a case that has cups machined into it, that increase resistance to sort of spin both wheels (simplified description).

There is also the Ratcheting locker, aka; Detroit Locker, an intricate design of dubious durability, much less reliability.

Then, of course, there are the myraid of air (or other wise activated) lockers in the aftermarket.

The best bang for the buck in locking differentials is the 4 pinion POWER LOCK, as typically found in our 1st gens.
It's durable, 100% rebuildable and still easy to find parts for.

Mark.

I'm much more a fan of the tru-trac (helical worm gear style "limited slip")

It is imo by far the best on the street style ls. As it is a "glorified open" But also requires some traction in order to work. It multiplies the wheel's power with least resistance and puts that to the other side..... problem is 0 x 0 = 0, so if one wheel is of the ground, you are dead in the water. But applying brakes usually does the trick.

These also work the best with heavy vehicles as they drive as an open diff does, you simply just don't get stuck eveywhere.

I'd put one in front and back, but they don't offer one for our rear end.... only the dana 70 hd 35 spline.

Thoughts about your build? Or old school truck rodeo? Im sure there's more. Here's the thing, this forum mo es a little slower than the others (not meant to offend, I like it hear). So if we got the word out a little better I'm sure more would be down to do it.

This sounds like fun ..... but I don't have a 1st gen , always liked the ones I had but these days I tend to purpose build my vehicles . So the first gen chassis is out because of room, comfort, and reliability.
I have however thought of building my parts excursion Into a play toy/ off roader

Do yourself a favor and only put it up in 1 place, CompD.

CF is full of kids, DTR is full of trailer towers who really could care less about more power and more about reliability. They would like the idea but for competition, this place and CompD have quite a bit of 1st Genners out there running.

Anyone have any ideas on what sort of competitions there could be....dyno and drag race are obvious.

But I like the whole streetability competitions as well..... like pulling x amount of load up an 8% (whatever) grade for x amount of mile race to the top, etc..... Stuff that Dodge would put a new truck up against for testing.

Maybe a 250 mile trip to see fuel economy.....

Then point system and see who has the most points in the end
