Leaking injectors

Postby Diesel Dawg » Wed May 01, 2013 11:01 am

I have some questions guys. My first two inj. are leaking where the hold down nut is. Should I pull just the two leaking and put new cooper washers and the O-Rings and the horse shoes for the return on those two. Or should I pull all six and redo them all. I will have to hire the work done and didnt know if I should do the ones leaking or all at the same time. I would like to upgrade injectors but have other things to get to first. What do Yall think? :? :? :?

Did you throw a wrench on the hold down nuts and see if they are loose? Might have to pull a valve cover to check #1. To tighten them properly you should pull the return line and injector lines off and use a socket on the hold down nuts. I had 1 injector on my 90 that was hand tight a few weeks ago, two of them were leaking, and I had checked them with a wrench before christmas. Pulled the return and injector lines, used a socket and they all took an 1/8 to a 1/4 turn before they were snug. Lightly greased the return line washers and bolts before reassembly, no leaks. No guarantee that reused return washers will seal without annealing or replacing them. I wouldn't pull the injectors without trying to tighten them down first.

The spec for the injector hold down nuts is 44 ft lb, make sure they're tight. Also make sure the valve cover gaskets arent leaking and making it look like the injector's copper seal washers are the culprit. :)

Thanks for the replys guys. I am sure it is the inj. leaking you can see it bubbling around the O-Ring in the hold down nut. I will make sure they are tight before I do anything else.

Sounds like the cooper washer seal has failed to me.
