Fuel leak

I know this has probably been discussed alot but i can't find my fix. I replaced the fuel filter on my pickup when i bought it (89 D350 auto) after i replaced it it started to leak also when i replaced it it had been tighten enough that the stud and the fuel heater came off as well and the fuel heater o-ring was bad so i just deleted it.

Now for a couple questions,
Where is it leaking? from the top sealing surface? From the bottom at the water drain?
When you deleted the heater, did you get the short stud or did you cut the original one?

The more info you give us the easier it will be to help you troubleshoot the problem. Kinda like my wife coming home and saying, " The car smells funny." I usually tell her to clean it out and get slapped for my helpfulness.

Today I fueled up at about 420 odd miles (I fueled up because of my low fuel light) and got about 17 mpgs hand calculated (before I was getting down to 12mpg) so I think it quite leaking but just to make sure i just looked around the filter didn't have any fuel on it nether did the water in fuel sensor and it was leaking on the tappet cover or what ever that plastic deal is.
I also just had the head gasket replaced about 1500 miles ago and yeas it was leaking before that.
The fuel heater delete I got was the shortened stud.

Alrite even though this is an old thread I looked again the other day and its still leaking going to try another filter hopefully it works anybody feel free to give me some more ideas.

Is your water sensor leaking ? where it screws into the fuel filter itself by chance? Also, the inj. pump can leak and while driving it can fly back onto the filter area, making itlook like it is coming from the filter.

I don't think its coming from anywhere on the filter because there was never any fuel on the filter or the water sensor the fuel is just on the block under neath the filter and i was thinking maybe it had something to do with the injection return lines.
I think i also might try tightening my injection lines on the injection pump, because it is dirty under the pump.

Clean the engine real good and see where its coming from. Could be the lift pump down on the block under the filter.

The IP return line may have rusted thru. They do that every now and then.

Gonna change the filter but can't drive it for now because I broke the fuel screw when I was tightening the jam nut on it . I was also wondering what is the easiest way to get the broken part out.

I also recently had the head gasket replaced and the guy that worked on it said the return line was fine.

i did the same thing, but it didnt leak when the truck was running. i drove it like that for about 2 years, until i had a better reason to pull the pump top off and get it out of there.

I haven't drove it since because of fear it might work itself inward and somehow break the injection pump. I know there is probably an extremely small chance of this happening but I would be the one that it would happen to.

It will not screw in, there's a ridge with a groove in the middle of the screw that an 'O' ring rides in, which will prevent it from over tightening, not that it ever will.
I'd be more concerned with it backing off, which is way more likely.

If you try to remove it, resign yourself to the fact that you will have to REMOVE THE PUMP TOP to do so, which would be a good time to re-seal the top and put in a stiffer governor spring.

As far as your leak, look at the vent on the back of the AFC pod, chances are the afc lever's transfer pin 'O' ring is leaking and filling the AFC, then running out the vent.

Alright i'm going to take the pump top off put a longer slide pin, new stock fuel screw, new 3200 gov spring, and new seals and orings. The only thing I need to now is were to get new ball bearings for the injection pump. I'm also going to get a fs-1221 and see what happens to all of these dang leaks.
