How can I tell what turbo is on my truck? Its a 93W350 automatic. All I have seen is holeset. What else identifies them.
Thanks,

There should be a silver tag on the intake turbine housing. It should be a H1C with an 18cm exhaust housing....if its stock

Was told that I should get a turbo/exhaust housing? from a 95^ 12v because it would spool faster. He said my turbo was big on the exhaust side which causes some lag. Would this hurt in mid &top of rpm?

Ellis,
Is that id tag on the front side bottom? If so I will have to take off my air intake to get to it.

I'd think the 12cm would be a little tight for an auto truck, maybe if it was stock and you didn't plan to crank it up it would be ok but with a tighter converter the tighter housing may be beneficial.

I have the whole turbo from a '97 and, yes, it will spool faster than stock. Will it hurt flow in mid and high rpms? Not on a stock engine to any noticeable degree. I have a stock (loose) auto and I still like it. My truck's 110 hp over stock so....

Yes, that's the tag you are looking for.

Thinking on it some, I'd say that housing is probably good for anything your stock injectors can put out. It may get marginal up top with a fully-cranked pump but I figure EGTs will slow you down before drive pressure becomes an issue.

It's also got a 'gate to help bandaid that problem some.

Got to messin under the hood the last couple days, so while there pulled the intake tube. Just like y'all said H1C. For daily driving and pulling my home a few times a year, possibly halfway across the country, is this turbo doable? Or should I think about a swap?
Thanks

Turbo characteristics are nearly 100% personal preference. If you're used to driving a farm truck weighing in at 80k+ with a little 290 hp NTC Cummins under the hood, your pick up will feel fast pulling a load. On the flip side of the coin, if you're used to driving a new Mustang, your pick up will feel dog slow with a camper behind it.

If you aren't satisfied with how your truck spools, an HX35 swap is as straight forward as it gets. Your intake, intercooler, exhaust, and oil drain will all line up. The oil feed only needs a flare fitting adapter to work with an HX35.

My goal is to be able to pull 15k at close to interstate speeds and up grades without cooking my engine or transmission. Don't really care about acceleration too much. Not drag racing, those days are behind me now. Want this truck to last another generation and do its job well.
