oil pressure question

Postby theoldmanW350 » Thu Jun 20, 2013 11:54 am

Hello all. I just posted in the new member forum and here I am with my first question. When I start my truck after it's been parked for a spell I immediately have "full speed" oil pressure. The owners manual shows normal idle pressure then full speed pressure. Does this indicate any potential problem? I'm a new to diesels so still need to learn A LOT. Thanks.

I think our oil gauge is more of an idiot light than a gauge. Mine cruises right up to the middle of the gauge on startup and stays there regardless.

Only time I've seen it move is when I had a bad connection at the sensor and it read low.

Agreed that's how my 92 is. my race truck is nice and slow (mechanical gauge) my 91 is slow as molasses and my 03 when it had the Amsoil bypass took minuets to come up at all (for the record I do not recommend the Amsoil dual bypass)

when i had a mechanical gauge in mine, upon 1st start in the morning, oil psi would be between 60 up to 90 psi, then once warm, be about 20 or 30 at idle.
