Tractors that old are a rarity around here. The guy I work for has a 4850 retrofitted with GreenStar and autosteer for the corn planter. I like the big black cloud that those oldies roll out when they start up 8) I guess I was born 2 decades early

It seems like half the tractors of that vintage are  I think those are the last era that you didn't have to send them to the dealer for anything more than an oil change

Only tractor better in my opinion is the 4960, my neighbors got one of them and i swear its turned up 99% Its a bad machine,It doesnt really clean up and run until about 1600 rpms, lol. They busted a headbolt off in it last year pulling a disk, long story short, they put a new one in and off they went 8)

Oh and Caleb, I was field cultivating with that 4955 a while back and it started knocking... long story short we took it apart and the crank broke into two pieces.. so we did an underhaul on that. again...

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has that problem  If there's one part I want, I look for a whole truck

Good night Jack  That's the 2nd Deere I've heard of breaking the crank and still running. Those tractors are going to go up in value soon with all the emissions stuff that's here/coming. The 4850 I've worked with is great except for hydraulics have come a LONG way in 25-30 years. And hydraulics matter when you have a Deere planter

 People don't keep them that long around here. There's some older 4wds around, but for the most part, equipment is under 15 years old around here. Everyone has tractors like that 8430R (?) next to your 4955 on tractor day.

I replaced my upper kingpin bushings and springs today and it made the top of my tire lean out quite a ways now. Anyone here know what is in the lower kingpin cap?
The bolts were tighter than sin, so i thought id ask before i broke out the torch and a bigger bar

The lower has a tapered roller bearing and race, the bearing sits on the lower cap...it can be a pain to pop the cap/bearing out sometimes...sometimes it just comes apart easily.
