The water passages are restricted in order to try to keep the cylinder walls an even temp, without the restrictions the bottoms run much cooler than the tops, and that can easily lead to piston scuffing.

i see their thinking...

but with the colder coolant coming straight from the rad into the bottom of the block it is gonna be cooler anyways, no?

and what does heat do to a hole?

you know what i mean? does the bore get larger as the block heats up?

does the factory use a torque plate when the finish hone?

do they use a 'hot hone'?

if not i cant see how opening up those passages a little bit could make that much difference to how round the bore ends up or what size it is

SHOOT - had head tanked and mag'ed - 3 ex seats got cracks running accross em. one of them has 2 or 3 cracks. the guy wants a buck n a quarter to put six hard seats in it. (he is already charging me buck n half for tank, mag, and grind valves) (just the valves, i will do the seats).

it is not very flat either - only about 4 if i check straight accross, but 7 one way and 8 the other if checked diagonally. anyone know the service limit and what is max for high boost? well, not real high, but 50-60?

he wants 120 to surface it but did say he will make it as smooth as i want it

the guides all feel pretty loose to me, some a little looser than others. he said they are fine. i dont know for sure, didnt measure the clearance, but i dont like it they they all dont feel the same. i told him to 'let it sit' and i would talk to him tomorrow

wish i would have just bought a $600 ebay head - damn it

ANY SUGGESTIONS - IDEAS??? i am listening

thanks, don

If the seats are in right they won't fall out. All of my heads have inserts, and none have ever come out. yet anyways.

talked to josh at woodruff's today

he says, "no worries, most of them come in like that"

told me to grind the seats, save my money and dont put big valves in it, and dont worry about it

he also said that they get 2000 hp out of motors with (get this) - stock valves

crazy, huh?

I have heads that are cracked through the injector bores, but not cracked in the seats. I have seen some Scheid motors dynoed and they were in the 1500hp range. I think 1600 or so is pretty tops, I haven't seen any close to 2000, I must be getting out of the loop.

i built a stroker 360 with 318 propane heads , that had cracks through few seats . we put hardened seats in all the intake and exhausts and had no problems with that engine with the heads ( drove it for about 120,00 km ) .

the question you probally need to ask , what happens when it does fail ?
is this your only truck , or main form of transportation .
can you deal with the down time ?

or is it just a toy that will be ripped apart , or could be ripped apart on a regular basis ?

i have 2 trucks. one has to be reliable and will go coast to coast. i was going to use the ve motor for that. this is the head for the ve motor. i know, i could swap heads - but whos to say the p-pump head isnt cracked too? and i am running out of time

brian, i think he was talking about sigma pumped tractor pull motors. and they might not be 2000, maybe 1850 or something? close enough for me

lol

josh was talking about a 358 cu in cummins

doesnt matter, the point was - i forget the point now?

they make a lot of power?

they make it with stock valves and ports?

something like that...
