You can but it won't bolt right up. Swapping drivetrain might be easier.

will the front suspension fit the half ton frame. I know the rear will work but the front has me guessing

No the 1st and 2nd gen suspension is different. Depending on what you are using the truck for you can use the half ton drive train.

will the half ton body be strong enough to handle what I want to do. I know it does with the gasser but brakes the bank on fuel useage' the body on my 93 is eat up with rust and I need the cab space on the 98 to do what I need to do.

The body is no stronger from 1/2 ton to 3/4 ton. You can always go to a junk yard and pick up the 3/4 ton front suspension. I'm not sure on the frame difference though between the two. I'd personally swap the ending and everything over and beef up what's needed. Are these 2wd or 4wd trucks?

they are both 2 wheel drive the 98 I have had for several years and it is in excellent shape. if the swap is feasible then I would love it to be that way. I don't mind doing without the 3/4 ton frame if the half ton will hold the motor okay

The newer half ton frames are much stronger then mine and I haven't had a issue. Many guys are running half ton conversions now. Is your camper really heavy or could you pull it with the half ton now?

I'd swap in you motor and upgrade to a 47rh or 5 speed for towing. If you can pull it with the half ton no need to swap suspension in my opinion.
