power issues

Postby tradtke » Fri Nov 01, 2013 4:08 pm

Alright so I was on my way home tonight and thought it seemed like my truck was a little doggish so I got into and it turns out that it is. I used to be able to spool up 35 psi and my egts would skyrocket. Now I can only get 25 psi out of the old thing and the egts barely touch 1100. And I also tried free reving it a couple of times and it sputtered a little bit when the rpms climbed and then when the rpms were about maxed out it almost seemed like it was bouncing off of a rev limiter. Its a 1991 dodge w250 145000 miles its got gauges, 16 cm exhaust housing, 3200 governor spring AFC lever delete and the pump is pretty much maxed out. Any idea on what the problem is?

I thought that the injection pump could run fine on these trucks if the lift pump goes bad

Depends on how it goes bad. It can draw it's own fuel............to a degree. Also, when they go they can sometimes allow air into the lines.

But, I would try fuel filter first..........then look at possible lift pump failure.

Have any way to check fuel pressure?

You have to either install a fuel pressure gauge in the cab or find something you can hook up temporarily.
