Need some help diagnosing my truck

Postby 9cummins3 » Fri Nov 08, 2013 2:53 pm

Hey guys I'm new to the site here. I've been scrolling through the place and found some really good information. But I couldn't exactly find what I needed so I figured I'd post up and introduce myself and see of I could get some help at the same time.

I'm fresh outta high school and in school for a heavy equipment tech. So if I say something stupid not pertaining to the subject, don't hesitate to correct me.

First off the truck is a '93 w250 with 265,000 miles on it. It has your usual pump mods (366, timing spacer, and tuned),4" TBE, 5x12s, HX-35w and that's pretty much it.

Secondly, the problem I'm having. Back in the summer I was running her pretty hard and the throttle linkage hung on me at WOT. It got stuck on the inlet line. This occurred twice and both times I had to pull off the side of the road and throw it up in fifth hold the brake and dump the clutch. Not what I wanted to do but it's all I could think of. After the first time it happened the truck would start "popping" and white smoking if it was free revved. If there was a load on the engine it wouldn't "pop" but it would white smoke just not as much. And if you let it coast down a hill and let the rpms get up it would pour white smoke. So I replaced the injectors after finding one of them bad. Still had the same problems. Then I blew a head gasket. So I had a head job done and none of the valve springs tested out so they were all replaced. And I thought maybe they're were letting the valves float thus causing my "popping". Put the head back on bled the lines and it still wouldn't fire. Gave her a couple snorts of ether and she finally fired but still white smoking and now it was running very rough and wouldn't idle. But it would run smooth as silk at half throttle but if you went below or above it would miss and "pop" and pour white smoke. And I couldn't get number 2 injector to bleed completely. All 5 others were spraying fuel like they should. So I'm stuck on what to check.

A couple of my thoughts were: something internal in the pump, pump timing has jumped, or the "missing" piece of my shutoff solenoid plunger is plugging something off. If Yall could give me a hand it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Austin

Welcome fellow young gun! 8)

When did you install the timing spacer and governor spring in relation to all this other stuff happening?

The governor spring has probably been in it a year or so, and the timing spacer has been on it about a year.
