manifold adapter for turbo

Postby muddpar » Sat Jan 04, 2014 1:10 am

I homemade t3 adapter for my turbo to drop it down from the exhaust manifold. I made it to clear the firewall on my 93 Chevy. When I had the stock turbo on truck I custom made the downpipe to clear the firewall. Two years ago I bought a used he351cw turbo. It has no divider on the manifold side if the turbo. Last spring I bought a used Aurora 3000 turbo, which has a divider. I made the adapter to run a 4" downpipe. I did put a divider in my homemade adapter.

So my question is do I need a divider on my adapter?
Does that effect my turbo lag, boost, egt?

Having a divided manifold into a non divided adapter, and to a divided turbo might cause turbulence in the flow of exhaust entering the turbo. Its possible that it could cause spooling problems. I'd leave the divider in it.

thanks guys for your replies. I was curious because I was talking to some guy at the hardware store. He heard my truck running and asked me if it was a Cummins and he wanted to see my setup. So I showed him and told him everything I've done to it. He pretty much trash my truck. He had a 200? power stroke with 24v Cummins, 6 speed manual, lifted very nice truck. He told the divider don't make a difference.

Thanks Eric (rccummins89) for the lppp, definitely can feel the difference

Well, I'm not surprised, 1st he has a Powerstroke truck. What little intelligence he may have showed by having a Cummins in it was negated by the fact he put in a 24v. ;)
You need to learn to use your BS filter when talking to random diesel heads out places. Some guys are smart and are great to talk to, and others are dummer than a bag of hammers. This is usually evident by the comments, " you know Ford owns Cummings?" "I get 29 mpg with my 6.0 pulling the trailer with my race truck on it." etc.
Just don't take it to heart when somebody puts down your truck. I usually just smile and say, "Yup, well, I gotta go!".

I just say "It's stock. I don't know anything about it, I just drive it."

I like screwing with the guys at the parts house with mine. Its funny watching them try to find a D150 with a Cummins in it. One of the guys at the local diesel shop believes that they were rare with very limited production numbers. I think I'd leave the divider in it.

That's what I tell people it's a rare Chevy Cummins, but no one ever believes me.

I had the dumbest argument with a guy at Les Schwab's once.

I needed lug nuts and he gave me 9/16", I said I need 1/2". He says, "oh yea, you have a "heavy half"". I say, "no, I have diesel running gear". He says, "no, you have 8 lug 1/2 ton axles.". I'm like, "no, I have a dana 60 front and dana 70 rear".

That went one for like 10 minutes. He treated me like I was so stupid, I never went back to that Les Schwab's again.
