4x4 De exhaust on 2wd

Postby DodgeFreak » Thu Jan 09, 2014 6:03 am

Is the only difference in the pipe by the t-case?? is the 2wd pipe straight? My Crew Cab needs an exhaust really bad and my 4wd is getting tore down so I thought about making that one fit until I can get the 4wd swapped in.

I've not seen a 4x4 kit, but the 2wd kit is the down pipe, a straight piece under the cab, then a piece that jogs to match the contour of the frame, then another straight piece, then a muffler, and last the 2 tail pipe sections.

I couldn't get that contoured piece to line up, so I have a straight shot running from the DP to the tail pipe.

As far as making it work on your 2wd, you shouldn't have an issue, you can always grab a stick of 4" straight from a truck shop and put it in place for a cleaner look...

The 2wd downpipe is longer than the 4wd down pipe........and then the piece that goes through the case is different. After that I'm 99% sure they are the same.

longer as in front to back??? or height wise?? I knew the tcase pipe was different. I was just hoping the rest would work.

It should all clear, the t-case is the only difference under the truck.

The 2wd downpipe is longer.....meaning it hangs down further below the truck. Either way, like andy said... it will fit.

I think my down pipe hangs down too low. Got a pic of them side by side perhaps?

When I make it down there I'm planning on removing the system so I could measure it for you or take a pic. Thanks for the info helps a lot!

No pic available. But, I had to cut off 11" off my 2wd dp that I used to make my diesel exhaust. Now, my dad's dp hangs down probably 3" or so further down than mine in his 4x4.

I know they are longer, but not sure how much. I also know that diamond eye had to change their downpip lengths about 4ish years ago because they were too long. This was an issue on the 4x4 trucks, but I don't know if they also changed the 2wd dp or not. But, there are 2 different p/n for the diamond eye downpip (2x4 vs 4x4) so they are not the same.

I'll eventually need a different down pipe, but I think the one I have now hangs too low for my tastes. That's good to know.

I remember seeing something about that, the pinion yoke was smacking the bottom of the down pipe, some had holes punched in them...

I had used a hondge podge of 2wd and 4wd exhaust down pies, and misc shaed pipes on my long box 2wd crewcab. Never had any major issues...other then about 3 feet of flex 3" pipe to make up the difference in frame length.
