Considering Water/Meth set up. Advice.

Postby theoldmanW350 » Tue Dec 31, 2013 2:56 am

Hello all. My 1990 W350 non IC is stock. I tabbed the KDP and installed a boost and pyro gauge. I helped a friend and have one haul under my belt (3/4 bed of hardwood) and want to lower my EGT's (surprise!). I'm familiar with the intercooler route but I'm considering water/meth instead simply for the seeming simplicity. 2nd hand intercoolers in my neck of the woods are hard to come by. My friend now has plans of purchasing a trailer and wants my help. So now I want to build a tow rig. Would it be prudent to swap in a bigger turbo and fab a bigger crossover as well? I'm not averse to filling a tank with fluid but how quickly is a 5 gallon tank consumed? I have dreams of buying a cabover camper as well. Thanks.

60 mm compressor upgrade would be a huge improvement over a 50 mm, and under half the cost of WM.

Water meth is a nice thing to have, cools your egts down quite a bit and gives you some more power, personally tho i would go with an intercooler first.
fyi 5 gallon will last quite a while depending on how much you use it and how many nozzles you have.

Ya a couple days after I posted a W/M set up sounded less and less like the way to go. Miraculously I got a line on a 96 intercooler. Going to look at it tomorrow. Is there a good way to establish it's overall condition? Thanks

Just eye ball it and go from there. You could maybe take it to a radiator shop and have them pressure test it to see if it leaks.

Simply curious as to the most you all would pay? He's asking 350. Like I mentioned 2nd hand parts don't grow on trees up here so the price may be a bit inflated.

The last 2 stock second gen intercoolers I gave $150 for and that was with piping. You can build your pressure tester cheap.

I think I paid $200 for mine, and it was in excellent shape. $350 is a bit steep...

Well I bought the IC with most of the accessories. I'm gonna move onto a new thread as I have some install Q's.
