Deere use them on some engines like in the 2950. They aren't big fuel pumps, they are about like a DB2 Roosamaster.

They put them on the 5.9's in the IH combines.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Yeah the Cummins B-series manuals for the Fuel System has both the VE and the CAV. I don't know why he would go to a CAV though... They don't make any more power. They also used Stanadyne DB4 pumps as well. But they were BOTH for GEN SETS so I think he will find he will have some trouble. However, the book lists some CAV DPA pumps that run 166 hp, 180 hp, and 210 hp. Problem is, that two of those are a marine application because they are 24V. the manual lists mosts 24v systems as marine.

Friend of mine has a 4B with a CAV and with it maxed out it is less than impressive. He just picked up a 4BT for parts and brought the pump over to me last night to work on. 3200 rpm gov spring, unstuck the afc pin, threw some new seals in there while I was at it. Should run good after he puts that on.

Thats not a leak, its the external lubrication system.
