Intercooler progress

Postby rbrettctd » Sat Feb 16, 2008 9:29 pm

Some pics of the install. Gotta move the radiator tomorrow to make clearance for the boot, gonna try to find some bigger clamps for the intercooler boots, the 3.25" od is just too big for my clamps. Also gotta order a 30* 3" silicon boot for the rubber boot you see on the hotside, its a wierd angle. Other than that, I should be good to rock and roll.

Watch out for the safety catch

Postby Ace » Sun Feb 17, 2008 7:58 am

I had to grind a 1/4" off the bottom of the safety catch to clear the top of my PS IC.

Looks good to me...thats a very timely post as I am in the process of talking myself into needing one of those PS coolers also. Since I am doing this crew cab swap and will most likely be heavily modifying my grill support anyway....now is as good a time as any to give it a whirl.

I will have to search and find the year cooler suggested for use.

Any 99-03 7.3 cooler will work.

As for the hood, I was able to shim my cooler out enough that the safety latch clears.

And Joel---I made this one just a hair shorter than the 2.5" horn I had. About 1/16" of the silicon hump hose on that one touched the insulation, but i am a bit worried about the slope of the hood to the side. If it rubs, I may have to swap the hump hose for a straight one, or cut the insulation a little.

Well I went and stuck my foot in my mouth----the boot did hit, so Ive got it ready to weld together up there, just waiting on my welder to get back from church.

Well my "welder" (yes my dad) looked at it and told me try it anyway...so I put some grease on the boot top and shut the hood, and low and behold it barely hits, so Im just gonna trim the insulation and live with it. I will take that other half of the grid heater though Joel. How did you cut it?

Well that works. But what is the giant cutout at the top of your intake horn??? Just noticed that.

Where the wire loom is going in it? Looks like the whole top is cutout. Could be my computer playing tricks on me....
