piston fuel pump options for 93

Postby jethro » Mon Jul 28, 2014 11:16 am

I have read of the piston fuel pump from hungry diesel which I am thinking is a 98+application and you go into it and replace the spring with a slightly weaker one(maybe they do it for you) to make the correct(lower) fuel pump pressure. as I remember it is about 260 $

I see on Geno's garage there is a similar looking piston pump for 100 $ ---- can it undergo a similar modification ?

(I have stock 160 HP engine)

Hungry Diesel sells the Low pressure High volume Piston pump for our trucks....The Geno's one if i'm not mistaken is a low pressure low(er) volume piston pump.
92 D350 Cab and Chassis. Auto stock, wiring gremlins. 330k miles
92 W250 Ext cab rotted completely out. Auto, pump maxed, 215 ppump nozzles, Denny T2 pin.
85 D350 single wheel, converted to cummins, getrag, turned up 2 turns and afc screw flush.

We take a 94-98 High pressure piston lift pump and modify it for the ve's pressure. We offer "just the spring" for those who would like to buy a high pressure pump themselves and swap it out themselves. It still requires a "kit" though in order to run a piston lift pump on a ve engine.

When you say "stock 185hp" engine, what engine are you running? They came stock as 160 in 93. Do you have an industrial application?

Yes- My mistake -- I ment 160 HP. It is a 1993 - completely stock as far as I can tell- only 50K miles. The only upgrade I was planning was to change the Gov. spring. Maybe leave the stock fuel pin till I see what gas mileage I get. (I havnt had the turbo hooked to the intake yet- but I have not seen ANY smoke at all- even when I goose the throttle...... is that unusual ????? Im not sure I trust the probably old diaphram pump- might be the one that came on it )

Is your larger flow volume pump capacity intended for when you are running larger flows of fuel from WAY bigger injectors ??????
I was planning on leaving my current injectors as-is for the sake of gas mileage. I wont be towing anything of any weight.
Would the geno's pump (1994-1998 12v #4988747) and your reduced power spring be suitable and appropriate flow-wise
for my application ?" (my understanding is that the in line pump takes a little more input pressure than the rotary- hence the spring change..... is that correct ?)

Is there (or would there be) any advantage of the higher flow pump ? I would think it would just increase the circulation flow rate back to the tank.... maybe lower the fuel temperature some if that is an issue......

Yall's guidance is GREATLY appreciated !

Our pumps are designed to work on a modified or bone stock engine. Advantages are more fuel if needed, and they are a lot more reliable. The diaphragm CAN rupture and dump fuel into the crankcase when they go bad.

That p/n from Geno's and our spring will work together... as long as you still have/buy/find the 2 sealing washers for the banjo bolt at the fuel filter (could re use your stock ones), the hard line from the lift pump to fuel filter (or make one), the block spacer, and those 2 gaskets. You'll also need to trim some of your tappet cover insulation.
