What do Yall use for engine paint ?

Postby jethro » Mon Jul 28, 2014 8:10 pm

My engine is fairly clean- but the previous owner rattle-canned what appears to be flat black hi-temp paint all over it.
I have to say it really makes a good engine look like crap ! Have the front cover off for KDP fix so I stripped the cover.
Is there off-the-shelf engine paint sold by cummins (the crème colored stuff) having the correct temperature resistance ?
Do the auto paint stores have a hi-temp base to make it up to the correct color ?
Don't want to put something on it that will come off later !!!!!!

HEY !!!
I actualy found the correct paint at O-Reilleys auto parts- rattle cans of hi-temp engine paint.
Still need a quart- but that gets me started !

We use the high temp as a base then scuff it a bit and spray on the exact color in normal enamel. Has done well for me.

No! Not a half inch thick.... Some of it I will be able to stray- but some areas will be easier to get up under with a
2 inch brush. A pint would do - but probably wont find anything anymore in pints......

I could brush the spray can paint if there was an easy way get it out of the can without a really nasty mess !

The spray can paint turned out beautifully for rattle can type.
I will try to clean the previous black with rotary wire brush. If that doesn't take it off- I figure it is stuck good enough
to paint over....
